First Look: Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman on ‘Doctor Who’ Set

Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman on the set of 'Doctor Who'

Although the world first met the 13th Doctor, Peter Capaldi, in last year's Doctor Who Christmas special, the BBC has offered fans more of a glimpse of him (clearly to appease us for the long-awaited season premiere of the sci-fi series).

Holding his script next to Jenna Coleman - who plays the Doctor's current companion, Clara Oswald, in the show - Capaldi is seen wearing the same outfit from the cliffhanger of the Christmas special (the very one the Twelfth Doctor, Matt Smith, regenerated in).

Emma Thompson: I Wanted to Be The Doctor

Emma ThompsonEmma Thompson would have "loved" to have become the first female time lord in Doctor Who.

The Oscar-winning actress denied speculation that she was offered the role given to The Thick of It actor Peter Capaldi, but said she would have jumped at the chance to join the BBC series.

"I would have said 'yes,' I'd have loved to have played Doctor Who. Maybe women need their own kind of new time traveling person?" she said, appearing alongside former Doctors Matt Smith and David Tennant on The Graham Norton Show.

On the upcoming 50th anniversary episode "The Day of the Doctor," the tenth Doctor David and eleventh Matt remain tight-lipped about the show's plot and only revealed Peter will "join at Christmas."

Mini Episode Introduces Warrior Doctor Ahead of 50th ‘Dr. Who’

There can never be too many promotional videos/mini episodes/prequels/extra shenanigans/etc. of Doctor Who.

With less than two weeks from the premiere of the special 50th anniversary episode of the sci-fi BBC series, titled "The Day of the Doctor," showrunner Steven Moffat releases a mini episode in order to connect the Eighth Doctor (Paul McGann) with John Hurt's "Warrior" incarnation.

Allons-y! The official trailer for Doctor Who's 50th anniversary special is finally out, and although it doesn't really give much away, it will definitely please fans of the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant).

In addition to showing Ten uttering his trademark French line, fans catch a glimpse of the banter between Ten and his successor: "Oh, you've redecorated! I don't like it," Ten tells Eleven (Matt Smith) in regards to the T.A.R.D.I.S. interior design. There's also some quick shots of the pair comparing their sonic screwdrivers and realizing they have similar taste in eyeglasses.

VIDEO: The Doctor Loves Hashtags

The upcoming Doctor Who 50th anniversary special -The Day of the Doctor - is around the corner, and folks over at the BBC gave fans a little Eleventh Doctor treat via YouTube.

In the quasi-PSA aimed at ensuring viewers raise as much online buzz about the show as possible, Eleven (Matt Smith, sporting a nice wig after having had to shed his locks for his role in Ryan Gosling's How to Catch a Monster) urges fans to embrace hashtags. He also recommends putting hashtags on your kittens - which was apparently a thing until "a bizarre incident with a chicken put an end to them all."

Tune in to BBC America for The Day of the Doctor, which premieres on November 30.

Moffat Tries to Explain How All Peter Capaldis Exist in ‘Doctor Who’

Peter Capaldi in 'Doctor Who' and 'Torchwood'

While some fans were probably relieved that Doctor Who's team didn't cast an even younger regeneration for Twelve, many were skeptical of the explanation for casting Peter Capaldi, who has not only previously appeared in the show's fourth season episode "The Fires of Pompeii" but also in the series spin-off Torchwood (for more than one episode, might I add).

Showrunner Steven Moffat attempted to address this issue, claiming that it still follow's the show's mythos:

“We are aware that Peter Capaldi’s played a part in Doctor Who before and we’re not going to ignore the fact. I’ll let you in on this. I remember [previous showrunner] Russell [T. Davies] told me he had a big old plan as to why there were two Peter Capaldis in the Who universe, one in Pompeii and one in Torchwood. When I cast Peter, [Russell] got in touch to say how pleased he was, I said ‘Okay, what was your theory and does it still work?’ and he said ‘Yes it does, here it is.' So I don’t know if we’ll get to it… we’ll play that one out over time. It’s actually quite neat."

'Doctor Who' 50th Anniversary Episode

The time is nigh, Whovians! The 50th anniversary episode of Doctor Who - whose title has been revealed as "The Day of the Doctor" (were the writers legitimately aiming to come up with one of the least exciting titles ever?) - is just around the corner. As such, the publicity team has unveiled a new poster for the grand event, this time featuring all three regenerations appearing in the episode: Matt Smith, David Tennant, and John Hurt.

Smith and Tennant are naturally in their Serious Pretty Boy poses while Hurt looks like a bada** walking away from an explosion of Daleks, a Bald Wolf sign, and a bunch of other neat-o things that are likely relevant to the plot. Tune in to BBC America on November 23 to witness the epic event!

The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I've never seen before."
